More Electricity, Less Generator.

The recent developments experienced in some states in Nigeria in regards to permanent or stable electricity supply has began to trouble some people, especially Importers and Distributors of generators.

In a recent interview with a generator merchant around Sango Ota, in Ogun state, he lamented that business has been too slow in recent times and wondered how he was going to carter for his family. Some have diverted into other businesses to at list secure a daily bread for the family.

A merchant even wished that the stable electricity be held for a while to enable him sell off all his generators and plan for other business in the nearest future.

The issue now is, are there others out there who wish that this stable electricity be reverted, indirectly wishing the country not to develop and taking us back to the days when we all scream, UP NEPA, at the emergence of power?, only God knows, but with time they will reveal themselves.

Science- Laser rewrites animal brain

Scientists have used a laser to 'rewrite' an animal's brain, 'steering' it left and right like a car (Image: Rex)
Ramanthan and his team were able to take control of Caenorhabditis elegans – tiny, transparent worms – by manipulating neurons in the worms' "brain." Science fiction has become reality as scientists used a laser to control an animal's brain - 'steering' the creature like a car by sending instructions saying, 'Left' and 'Right'.

The laser could also be used to implant false memories in the animals' brains, fooling them into thinking that food was nearby.
"By manipulating the neural system of this animal, we can make it turn left, we can make it turn right, we can make it go in a loop, we can make it think there is food nearby," said Sharad Ramanthan, an Assistant Professor of Biology at Harvard.

"We want to understand the brain of this animal, which has only a few hundred neurons, completely and essentially turn it into a video game, where we can control all of its behaviors."

iPhone 5: The Funny Side.

Before its final release to the market, some pranksters decided to make fun of the well expected phone.
Since Apple's iPhone 5 was first released in the United States, people have been itching to get their hands on it -- staying up late waiting for it to be available for preorder at midnight and even standing in long lines for hours to be among the first to purchase it. So a group of pranksters in the Netherlands thought it would be funny to play a trick on people who are eagerly anticipating owning the phone.

The iPhone 5 will be released in the Netherlands this Friday, and jokesters from the website iPhone5.nl thought it would be humorous if people were to stumble upon a new iPhone in the middle of Leidseplein, a busy square in Amsterdam -- but there was a catch. They used Super Glue to secure the device to the pavement and set up a hidden camera to capture people's perplexed reactions as they tried to pick up the phone.
Person after person approached, surprised to spot a new iPhone just lying on the street, and tried to pick it up. Some made multiple attempts to grab the phone. People even tried to kick the phone loose, but to no avail.

Rescued 655-Pound Sea Turtle Released

Rescued 655-Pound Sea Turtle Released (ABC News)

I got this wild life news from Yahoo.com, felt i should share...
A giant sea turtle that has been described as "like a swimming dinosaur" has been released back into the waters this weekend after it was rescued from a mud flat near the tip of Cape Cod, according to New England Aquarium officials.

The 7-foot-long, 655-pound black male leatherback turtle, an endangered species, was treated with "drugs to stabilize its blood values and oxygen levels," The Associated Press reported.
The turtle was found late Wednesday night on a mud flat in Pamet Harbor, near the town of Truro, Mass., by staff from a local Audubon sanctuary.

Lagos- Teachers begin strike today.

Teachers in Lagos state public primary and secondary schools have begun their statewide strike action today. The teachers vowed to go ahead with the strike since the state government had failed to meet their demands.

Their demand? The teachers are asking the state government to implement the 27.5 percent Teachers Salary Structure (TSS) which was an agreement between the Governors' Forum and the National body of the NUT. They plan to stay at home until their demands are met.

I wonder why they had to strike now that our children should be in school...wahala dey...

Jesus Had a Wife, Newly Discovered Gospel Suggests

I got this from the sounds weird though..pls read...

A Harvard historian has identified a faded,
fourth-century scrap of papyrus she calls "The
Gospel of Jesus's Wife." One line of the torn
fragment of text purportedly reads: "Jesus said to
them, 'My wife …'" The following line states, "she
will be able to be my disciple."

The finding was announced to the public today
(Sept. 18) by Karen King, a historian of early
Christianity, author of several books about new
Gospel discoveries and the Hollis professor of
divinity at Harvard Divinity School. King first
examined the privately owned fragment in 2011,
and has since been studying it with the help of a
small group of scholars.
According to the New York Times , King and her
collaborators have concluded that the business
card-size fragment is not a forgery, and she is
presenting the discovery today at a meeting of
International Congress of Coptic Studies in
Rome.
The fragment, written in Coptic, the language of a
group of early Christians in Egypt, has an
unknown provenance, and its owner has opted
to remain anonymous. Questions about the
fragment abound, but scholars say it will
nonetheless reignite several old debates: Was
Jesus married? If so, was Mary Magdalene his
wife? And did he have a female disciple? [ Jesus
Christ the Man: Does the Physical Evidence Hold
Up? ]
Scholars say these controversies date to the
early centuries of Christianity, but they remain
relevant today. In the Roman Catholic Church,
for example, women and married men are
barred from priesthood because of the model
thought to have been set by Jesus.
King has cautioned that the new discovery
should not be taken as proof that Jesus was
actually married. The text appears to have been
written centuries after he lived, and all other
early Christian literature is silent on the question
of his marital status.
But the scrap of papyrus — the first known
statement from antiquity that refers to Jesus
speaking of a wife — provides evidence that
there was an active discussion among early
Christians about whether Jesus was celibate or
married, and which path his followers should
choose, King told the Times.

"This fragment suggests that some early
Christians had a tradition that Jesus was
married," King said. "There was, we already
know, a controversy in the second century over
whether Jesus was married, caught up with a
debate about whether Christians should marry
and have sex ."
The significance of this fragment was known by
scholars previously, and then forgotten. When
its current owner acquired it in a batch of papyri
in 1997 from its previous owner, a German, it
came with a handwritten note. The note cited a
now-deceased professor of Egyptology in Berlin
as having called the fragment "the sole example"
of a text in which Jesus claims a wife.
According to the Times, papyrologists and
Coptic linguists who have studied the artifact
thus far say they are convinced by its
genuineness by the fading of the ink on the
papyrus fibers and the traces of ink adhered to
the bent fibers at the edges. The Coptic grammar,
handwriting and ideas represented in the text
would also have been nearly impossible to
forge.
"It's hard to construct a scenario that is at all
plausible in which somebody fakes something
like this. The world is not really crawling with
crooked papyrologists," Roger Bagnall, director
of the Institute for the Study of the Ancient
World, at New York University, told the New York
Times .

Certain lines of the text resemble snippets from
the Gospels of Thomas and Mary, both believed
to have been written in the late second century
and later translated into Coptic. King surmises
that this fragment is also copied from a second-
century Greek text.
Further study will be needed to work out the
details, but the meaning of the words "my wife"
is beyond question, King said.

Anti-American protests rage across Middle East ..

American rage sparked by an online film that insulted Islam's prophet boiled over Friday among Muslims in at least half a dozen countries, as the United States stepped up security at diplomatic posts across the Middle East.
One of the worst riots took place in Sudan, where a thousands converged on the German Embassy and set it on fire, a journalist on the scene said. Some managed to get inside and pull down a German flag before police with tear gas forced the crowd to retreat.
In Egypt, a running battle between police and protesters in Cairo continued into its fourth day. And Afghanistan saw its first demonstrations Friday, despite the government's attempts to block the online video from sparking riots.
Aware that protests were planned for Friday -- the Muslim holy day -- the United States beefed up security at its embassies and consulates across the Middle East.
"We are in a full-court press at every single one of the posts in the Middle East and anywhere else there is any chance of demonstrations after Friday services to make sure nothing bad happens -- and to have the security in place in case bad things do happen," said a senior administration official, who was not authorized to discuss the issue in public and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The current unrest began Tuesday when outrage over a 14-minute American-made online video that mocks the Prophet Mohammed as a womanizer, child molester and ruthless killer sparked riots at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Four America consulate staffers were killed, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Woman delivers horse in Edo church

Worshippers of the World Liberation Ministry located along old Sapele-Benin express road on Tuesday took to their heels during a prophesy programme when a female member delivered a horse.
The horse was however dead by the time Journalists visited the church. It was gathered that the woman whose identity was not yet known started screaming during the prayer session and began to bleed from the vagina before the horse came out.
The General Overseer of the church, Evangelist Silva Wealth, said he was still amazed at what came out of the woman.

He told Journalists that during prayers a revelation came that there was a woman with an issue and that something was blocking her womb.

Silva said as prayers intensified, the woman started screaming and bleeding started when the object came out.
The cleric said he couldn’t confirm whether the horse was dead or alive because he didn’t go near it.
“I can’t describe the object. We have seen people that vomited several things during our service but not this type of thing. God has been blessing our ministry with prophesies and miracles, “he said.
People rushed to the church to catch a glimpse of the horse when news of the delivery filtered into town.

Chicago teachers to strike after talks fail

FILE - In this Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 file photo, members of the Chicago Teachers Union distribute strike signage at the Chicago Teachers Union strike headquarters in Chicago. The Chicago Teachers Union announced Sunday night that its 25,000 members will go on strike Monday morning, Sept. 10, 2012, for the first time in 25 years after contract talks with the school district failed over issues that included benefits and job security. (AP Photo/Sitthixay Ditthavong)
Chicago teachers went on strike Monday for the first time in 25 years after their union and district officials failed to reach a contract agreement despite intense weekend negotiations that the union said were productive but still failed to adequately address issues such as job security and teacher evaluations.
The two sides were not far apart on compensation, but were on other issues, including health benefits — teachers want to keep what they have now — and a new teacher evaluation system based partly on students' standardized test scores, Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis said.
"This is a difficult decision and one we hoped we could have avoided," she said. "We must do things differently in this city if we are to provide our students with the education they so rightfully deserve."

Hmm....since 25years?........woow, i trust my naija teachers, it is a different story over here. I just pray we get to this level on time..

5 Weird Medical Tests..try them

Have you ever wondered why your doctor asks you to do odd things like touch your nose during an office visit, then scribbles notes in your chart? It's because there are many physical tests that can tell whether your body is functioning as it should. While we tend to leave it to doctors and medical tests to figure out if something's wrong, we can actually use many of these checks ourselves to determine whether all systems are go. Here, five odd medical tests you can do at home.

1.The Diamond Test or "Schamroth's Sign"

What it tests for: Cardiovascular, lung, or other diseases

How to do it: Hold up (or down) both index fingers and turn them so the nails are facing each other. Press the nails together and you should be able to see a tiny, narrow, diamond-shaped space between your nails where the nails come flat together but the nail beds don't touch each other.
What it means: If your nails are rounded over and can't press flat together, it's a sign of "clubbing," a thickening of the fingertips that occurs when not enough oxygen is circulating in the bloodstream. Clubbing can be a sign of cardiovascular disease, such as coronary artery disease or heart failure, or of lung disease, like COPD, lung infection, or lung cancer. In some cases, inflammatory bowel disease and cirrhosis of the liver also cause clubbing.
What to do if you fail: Look closely at your fingers for other signs of clubbing. Measure the thickness of your fingertips all the way around; if they're clubbing, you'll notice that they're noticeably thicker above the top knuckle than below it. Clubbing is important to bring to your doctor's attention to monitor your heart and lung health.
