Woman delivers quadruplets at home.

Who said it is impossible to deliver at home, Well testimonies have been shared in the past of successful child deliveries at home, though in this case FOUR children were delivered.

Wednesday, in Bauchi when the wife of a peasant farmer gave birth to quadruplets at home with help from a traditional midwife. The farmer’s wife, 25-year-old Murjinatu Yusuf’s babies, all girls, weighed between 0.6 and 1.2 kilogrammes. They live at Gajin Duguri village in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state, while the lawmaker’s wife, Aishatu  Abdul-kadir, 31, is from Kirfi Local Government Area.

Murjinatu’s husband, Salisu Yusuf, 30, is however, unhappy as his farmland was washed away during last week’s flood that swept across the state. Yusuf, now a father of nine, said he was at cross-roads on how to provide for his family.
He said: “I thank God for these four children that He has given me. Everybody is surprised because this is the first time that this is happening in my village and even in the state. I pray that God should keep them for us and bless them.
I need govt’s help—Husband
“I am pleading with the government to help me. Flood has swept off my farm from where I feed my family. I used to buy six to seven mudus of corn to feed my family per meal, but now I do not know how we will survive.”

SCIENCE: Acne-fighting virus discovered

Phage virus that occurs naturally on human skin found to kill the bacteria that causes the distressing skin condition

Acne vulgaris (cystic acne or simply acne) is a common human skin disease, characterized by areas of skin with seborrhea (scaly red skin), comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), papules (pinheads), pustules(pimples), nodules (large papules) and possibly scarring.
Acne affects mostly skin with the densest population of sebaceous follicles; these areas include the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back. Severe acne isinflammatory, but acne can also manifest in noninflammatory forms. The lesions are caused by changes in pilosebaceous units, skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland, changes that require androgen stimulation (Wikipedia).

US researchers found that the phage virus can kill Propionibacterium acnes - the bacteria that cause acne. They discovered 11 different versions of the virus, which can be used to target the blocked pores that trigger the skin condition.
Hopefully, this discovery may be used as a therapy in the cure or control or prevention of Acne.

NORWAY: Lucky family wins national lottery three times

Good fortune and having children just seem to go together for Norwegian mother Hege Jeanette Oksnes.
Each time the 29-year old petrol station attendant from tiny Austevoll island off Norway's west coast gives birth, someone in her family wins the national lottery.
"This is completely insane... we don't even play the lottery that often," Oksnes said only days after the family collected 12.2 million crowns ($2.12 million) with their third lottery win in six years.
Oksnes, who serves hot dogs at a petrol station, gave birth to her first child in 2006 just one day after her father Leif won 4.2 million crowns on the national lottery.

The Spirit behind PHONES..

I wont start by defining what a phone is or what it is used for, if you dont know then you are probably living in the 17th century.

That being said, every one enjoys introduction of new things, take for example, the purchase of a new car or the birth of a first child or achieving your first million, so was the joy experienced when the mobile phone was invented.
The first mobile telephone call was made on 17 June 1946 from a car in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, using the Bell System's Mobile Telephone Service. This was followed in 1956 by the world’s first partly automatic car phone system, Mobile System A (MTA) in Sweden. The MTA phones were composed of vacuum tubes and relays, and had a weight of 88.2 pounds (40 kg).

Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher and executive, led the team that developed the first hand-held mobile telephone for use on a cellular network.  Using a somewhat heavy portable handset, Cooper made the first call on a handheld mobile phone on April 3, 1973 to his rival, Dr. Joel S. Engel of Bell Labs.

More Electricity, Less Generator.

The recent developments experienced in some states in Nigeria in regards to permanent or stable electricity supply has began to trouble some people, especially Importers and Distributors of generators.

In a recent interview with a generator merchant around Sango Ota, in Ogun state, he lamented that business has been too slow in recent times and wondered how he was going to carter for his family. Some have diverted into other businesses to at list secure a daily bread for the family.

A merchant even wished that the stable electricity be held for a while to enable him sell off all his generators and plan for other business in the nearest future.

The issue now is, are there others out there who wish that this stable electricity be reverted, indirectly wishing the country not to develop and taking us back to the days when we all scream, UP NEPA, at the emergence of power?, only God knows, but with time they will reveal themselves.

Science- Laser rewrites animal brain

Scientists have used a laser to 'rewrite' an animal's brain, 'steering' it left and right like a car (Image: Rex)
Ramanthan and his team were able to take control of Caenorhabditis elegans – tiny, transparent worms – by manipulating neurons in the worms' "brain." Science fiction has become reality as scientists used a laser to control an animal's brain - 'steering' the creature like a car by sending instructions saying, 'Left' and 'Right'.

The laser could also be used to implant false memories in the animals' brains, fooling them into thinking that food was nearby.
"By manipulating the neural system of this animal, we can make it turn left, we can make it turn right, we can make it go in a loop, we can make it think there is food nearby," said Sharad Ramanthan, an Assistant Professor of Biology at Harvard.

"We want to understand the brain of this animal, which has only a few hundred neurons, completely and essentially turn it into a video game, where we can control all of its behaviors."

I hope humans will not be next....

iPhone 5: The Funny Side.

Before its final release to the market, some pranksters decided to make fun of the well expected phone.
Since Apple's iPhone 5 was first released in the United States, people have been itching to get their hands on it -- staying up late waiting for it to be available for preorder at midnight and even standing in long lines for hours to be among the first to purchase it. So a group of pranksters in the Netherlands thought it would be funny to play a trick on people who are eagerly anticipating owning the phone.

The iPhone 5 will be released in the Netherlands this Friday, and jokesters from the website iPhone5.nl thought it would be humorous if people were to stumble upon a new iPhone in the middle of Leidseplein, a busy square in Amsterdam -- but there was a catch. They used Super Glue to secure the device to the pavement and set up a hidden camera to capture people's perplexed reactions as they tried to pick up the phone.
Person after person approached, surprised to spot a new iPhone just lying on the street, and tried to pick it up. Some made multiple attempts to grab the phone. People even tried to kick the phone loose, but to no avail.

I got this wild life news from Yahoo.com, felt i should share...
A giant sea turtle that has been described as "like a swimming dinosaur" has been released back into the waters this weekend after it was rescued from a mud flat near the tip of Cape Cod, according to New England Aquarium officials.

The 7-foot-long, 655-pound black male leatherback turtle, an endangered species, was treated with "drugs to stabilize its blood values and oxygen levels," The Associated Press reported.
The turtle was found late Wednesday night on a mud flat in Pamet Harbor, near the town of Truro, Mass., by staff from a local Audubon sanctuary.

Lagos- Teachers begin strike today.

Teachers in Lagos state public primary and secondary schools have begun their statewide strike action today. The teachers vowed to go ahead with the strike since the state government had failed to meet their demands.

Their demand? The teachers are asking the state government to implement the 27.5 percent Teachers Salary Structure (TSS) which was an agreement between the Governors' Forum and the National body of the NUT. They plan to stay at home until their demands are met.

I wonder why they had to strike now that our children should be in school...wahala dey...
